Photovoltaic Solar Energy

The Photovoltaic Solar Energy group investigates future PV concepts and systems, as well as how to integrate them in large amounts into the energy system to mitigate climate change. 

The research lines are:

  • Resource assessment and modelling of PV generation at system level and large scale based on weather data.
  • Design, modelling and characterization of novel PV concepts to increase the efficiency of solar photovoltaics.
  • Optimization applied to determine the cost-optimal configuration of energy systems subject to constraints (e.g. limited CO2 emissions) including interconnection among countries, storage and coupling power system to heating, transport, and industry.
The DataSunEye represents the photovoltaic generation from rooftop installations in every country in Europe.
The DataSun represents the photovoltaic generation from rooftop installations in every country in Europe. Every data point represents the average generation in a week throughout 5 years. Moving in the radial direction seasonal variation can be observed, from January to December. The countries are ordered based on their latitude (counterclockwise and starting at the arrow).
