Fluid Dynamics and Building Ventilation

ABOUT THE RESEARCH GROUP

Airflow Dynamics and Building Ventilation is a classical but important engineering discipline, since it directly links with indoor climate, air quality and wellbeing of the occupants in buildings. The airflow conditions in and around the buildings provides also transport issue for contaminants which may influence public health, impact to atmospheric environment. Wind environment has also important interaction with urban air quality, building designs and city planning.

The vision and focus of the research group is to develop the knowledge on design and control of ventilation, air motion and distribution in room spaces for optimal indoor climate and air quality control for life, including human, plant & farming animals. Urban wind environment and urban ventilation as well as its interaction with building ventilation are also within our research scope.

The research group has the state-of-the art facilities and instrumentation to conduct experimental investigations under controlled conditions in wind tunnels, full scale multi-function IEQ chamber, and the numerical laboratory of Fluid Dynamics; the group has many year research experiences in engineering solutions for livestock industrial ventilation design, modelling and control of air distribution, indoor climate, air quality and emissions,  and collaborations with industry.

In addition, the research group provides the research-based education of MSc in airflow dynamics and building ventilation at Aarhus University, which gives the candidates frontier knowledge of this engineering direction.
