Photonics

We develop technologies based on the generation, manipulation, and detection of light, using, e.g., lasers, modulators, and photodetectors, in free space, in fiber-optic systems, or integrated on optical chips. This photonic technology is used to generate and process, e.g., high-bandwidth data signals, narrow linewidth and frequency-tunable optical fields, low-noise microwave fields, terahertz radiation, and optical non-classical states. Applications include future (quantum) signal and information processing, wireless 5G and fiber-optic communication, and sensitive sensing, spectroscopy and metrology.
