Why Aarhus University?

Our engineering students can be a valuable source of fresh ideas, skills and knowledge when working on short projects inspired by companies. Experience in companies is invaluable for our students as it places their studies in a real work context, helping them to take informed decisions for career choices or future studies (i.e. PhD programs). Both our academic staff and a project supervisor at the company will ensure an appropriate supervision and mentoring of the student. Companies have the opportunity to collaborate on a range of different types of student projects.

What is your win as a company?

We encourage our students to seek opportunities to broaden their engineering experience and to build their skills outside classrooms and laboratories. On the other hand, our students provide companies with an enthusiastic and motivated approach in doing practical projects to solve grand challenges that deliver real value.

• Scout engineering talent for potential recruitment

• Solve company-specific research and technical problems

• Access to the most recent academic knowledge in engineering

Types of collaboration

All study programs at the Department of Engineering have the opportunity to uplift the student's learning by having project work with a company or public sector body on temporary projects. Your projects can fit in the following categories of engineering, both bachelor and master level:

Your company has the opportunity to cooperate with students at several points in time during their education.  The projects are supervised by an academic from Aarhus University who has the knowledge of the given topic and a project supervisor from the company.

* the student will use up to 1/3 of time for preparing the written report.

Some of our education programs will host a project day where companies and various research groups present their research and future projects to the students.

Rules and practical information

The project can be conducted individually or in smaller groups. The practical part of the project can be done at the company site or in the university facilities. It is important that the company allocate time for supervision.

We recommend that the company assists with providing relevant project data and conducting trials on-site, as well as contribute to travel expenses on behalf of students, if applicable. If special test equipment, prototypes, test subjects, etc. are required, the company is expected to finance this in whole or in part. This will be discussed with the students academic supervisor.

It is highly recommended that sharing of company project ideas begins as soon as possible (at least 5-6 months before execution in the company), as the students need approval for their project in December (for projects starting in Spring semester) and/or in June (projects starting in Fall semester).

Intellectual Property Rights

Once ready for a project collaboration with us, the company will enter into an official Collaboration Agreement with the student and Aarhus University. Together, you will draw up a contract to ensure that all parties agree on the process. In addition, the student must establish a project agreement with the University of Aarhus at kontrakt.scitech.au.dk. You can seek the support of our Tech Transfer Office when it is needed.

Confidentiality agreement

We advice our student to use a standard confidentiality agreement (found here).

However, if it is necessary to make changes to the standard agreement, or the company may have their own agreement that they wish to use, please contact eng@au.dk.

The ENG Project Bank - Application process

To enable more students and companies to collaborate we have ENG Student Project Bank where your company can list potential project ideas. Follow the instructions below.
